Greetings from 7500 feet above sea level in India!! It's monsoon season here but the Ooty locals are somewhat concerned at present as the rains have been few and far between . Since I arrived a week ago today I have experienced only one downpour. Water shortage later on in the year is the main concern.
Since arriving one week ago tonight I have been kept very busy with my Orientation Programme. I have been unable to email or access the internet until now so apologies to all for lack of contact.
India is completely different from any other country I have visited! It is quite a culture shock. The town of Ooty is small by Indian standards yet for me it is jam packed with people! There is noise everywhere, cars hoot constantly, the smells are weird and wonderful and people and dogs and donkeys and goats all walk on the road. To say that my eyes are poping out of my head would be an under statement!
My taste buds have yet to appreciate the Indian spices and I struyggle with the Indian food at lunch time. In the evenings Western food has been served and the other night it was with gbreat relish that I devoured Sheperds Pie and rhubarb crumble and custard Woo Hoo
Somebody keep me posted with the ROSS COUNTY scores
Until the next time fond wishes
lovely to hear from you, glad you're safely there. wishing you rain and speedy adaptation to life there. X
ReplyDeleteDo you need some earplugs?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you made it there safe and sound. Was at the game yesterday, County beat Airdrie 2-1, it should have been about 6-2 with the chances they missed. Sorry to hear about your fragile belly but you'll get used to the rice eventually, and then it will be time to come home!!!
ReplyDeleteLove Sand
Glad to hear that you are enjoying the Indian culture! We are just heading back to Alness, having spent the past week in Skye, rain and midges. Back to work tomorrow after my very long break. Heather
ReplyDeleteI can imagine your face at the rich tapestry of life on the high street--bit different from Invergordon but similar to royal mile right now in festival time--plenty sheep there!! Having trouble with e mail again. Ann
ReplyDeletecows, bikes, donkeys, tuc tucs, goats, vans, dogs, lorries, buses, moterbikes, mopeds, all weaving in and out of each other and always managing to not crash! Love it! Have you noticed most of the cars don't have wing mirrors?
ReplyDeleteDid Mum (Ann) give you a book called Shantaram?
Can't wait to read more about your adventures!
Take care, Lynn
